𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐄𝐜𝐨-𝐅𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐥𝐲 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐨𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐑𝐮𝐲𝐚𝐠𝐚

COOPEKA, a local cooperative based in the Ruyaga zone, is receiving support from the AMEBE organization. COOPEKA specializes in the production of  eco-friendly environment charcoal made from agricultural waste such as rice husks and maize cobs. This initiative aims to protect the environment and preserve forests.

These activities are part of the #DSACC-BU project, supported by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Climate and Environmental Protection, Regions and Water Management of Republic of Austria. The project implementation is overseen by Caritas Austria.

After production, the charcoal is carefully dried and weighed before being sold. Users have reported that this new type of charcoal burns efficiently and lasts longer compared to traditional charcoal
