Kanyosha, Friday, May 23, 2025 – As part of ongoing follow-up activities within the DSACC project, a team from AMEBE, composed of the Program Director and Field Officer, conducted a field visit to the COOPEKA cooperative. The purpose of the visit was to assess the progress in the production of environmentally friendly bio-charcoal made from solid waste.
This initiative is part of the DSACC project, funded by Federal Ministry Agriculture and Forestry, Climate and Environmental Protection, Regions and Water Management Republic of Austria. and coordinated by Caritas Austria.
Upon arrival, the AMEBE team observed the cooperative members preparing 100 kg of bio char, which would later be transformed into charcoal. One of the key objectives of the visit was to witness the operation of a manual press that had recently been converted into a motorized press.
To our amazement, the new motorized system enabled the team to transform the entire batch of 100 kg into charcoal in just 30 minutes—a task that would have taken significantly longer with the manual press. This technological advancement is expected to increase productivity, boost incomes, and positively impact the environment by offering a sustainable alternative to traditional charcoal.
The AMEBE team encouraged the members of COOPEKA to continue their efforts and strive for even greater productivity, recognizing their contribution to both environmental protection and economic development.
